Why Solar PV?
Great Financial Reasons
A Solar PV panel installation offers great financial benefits to those wishing to have them installed.
With the UK Government looking to meet their obligations in the reduction of CO2 emissions, they have introduced the Feed In tariff incentive to improve uptake of renewable energy systems such as Solar PV. So a previously underused technology has become popular simply because it now makes financial sense. Although the initial outlay remains relatively high, the Feed in Tariff, which is guaranteed for 25 years for qualifying systems, will bring back significant returns, with the initial outlay being repaid in as little as 9 years.
Free Electricity
The electricity generated by the system can be useful in reducing your energy bills. So on a good day your demands could feasibly be being met by your own Solar PV installation, and as such reduce or remove your reliance on the national grid which in turn reduces your electricity bills. As electricity prices continue to rise, this is another way in which a Solar installation makes sense.
Dependent upon your usage and occupancy of the premises, it could be that the electricity you generate could surpass your personal needs, and in these cases, you are then able to sell back the extra electricity to the grid, effectively exporting your electricity and being paid for it
The Environment, CO2 & Financial Incentives!
We’re not going to preach!
It would be very easy to join in with the popular text and appeal to you to “save the world”.
Some companies make the sell with heartfelt pleas about Global Warming and rising CO2, some even demonise us all for going about our daily lives. Abatis recognise a few simple facts, that include the reality that there is an ongoing debate about the impact so called Greenhouse Gas Emissions have on our climate. At this time, we’ve yet to see any of these companies offering their services for anything less than the going rate (surely if they believed their own press they’d be fitting these panels for free to save the world?)
We recognise the science is still not settled and is unlikely to be so in the near future. But we also recognise the need for caution, and so no harm in using sustainable alternative sources of energy.
So, the technology exists to generate our own energy and now, thanks to the Feed in Tariff, to save ourselves money. As well as the financial benefits, once installed, Solar PV Systems don’t generate any emissions or pollutants. What this means is that if you believe CO2 is harming our environment, you’re able to be sure you’ve helped the environment and your pocket.
Regardless of opinion on the environment, the harsh fact is that most people will be able to consider Solar PV BECAUSE of the Feed in Tariff. In time it may well be the case that prices of the technology will come down making it even more affordable. Cost is the driving factor in making these decisions, and so we can say that in financial terms, Solar Makes Sense.
So whatever your view on the causes of climate changes, you have a reason to consider solar PV panels.
How does it work?
A Solar PV system uses energy from the sun to generate electricity. It doesn't need sunlight to produce electricity - just daylight, regardless of the season of the year. So you could be helping to lower your bills by reducing the amount of electricity you need from your supplier.
A solar PV panel consists of cells of one or two layers made from a semi-conducting material like silicon.
When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers, causing electricity to flow.
The electricity flows through a cable and is collected at a central point often located in your roof space.
The electricity is then converted from a direct current (DC) to an alternating current (AC) and carries on into your home for you to use.
If you don't use all the electricity that you have generated it will be exported to the National Grid and you will be paid for this.
